We, here, at The Oxford Princeton Programme, are well on our way to training more energy professionals in a single year than ever before. No small feat for a company that has steadily stayed on a trajectory of growth. We are proud of our wide array of course offerings, the deep talent that spans across the subject streams we specialise in, not to mention the flexibility in meeting customer requirements.
But as the saying goes, there is no resting on our laurels. Not only do we continue to add courses into 2007 based on client demand (Oil Trading Orientation in Singapore and North American Transportation and Storage in Calgary, both in December, come to mind), but we are also announcing our full 2008 schedule which is now available on our website.
Take a peek at the new titles as well as locations worldwide. Get a head start on your training plans and book today while both seats and the best promotional offers are available.

One of the biggest challenges busy professionals face with training is time away from the office. While our instructor-led courses are indeed selling-out, we'd like to remind you that there are always alternatives until you are able to schedule a live course.
For groups from the same firm, we can bring the course right to you by creating an on-site. Perhaps, web-based training may be the perfect fit for your organization as well.
This month's triva challenge was inspired by our most popular web-based course. Take a look at the entire course roster and try one out for yourself.
Congratulations to last month's winner Gemma Welden (London, UK). Enjoy your free web-based course!

What can delegates look forward to in your courses?
It all depends on the nature of the course. In the introductory trading courses "Fundamentals of Energy Futures" and "Fundamentals of Energy Options " and the three-day "Overview of Oil Trading" course that I run jointly with Mary Jackson, delegates can look forward to an action-packed day. They will be spending a lot of the time actually trading, in a simulated market, hoping that they can, as part of a small team, apply the knowledge and skills they have learned to make more money than any other team. Shouting and arm-waving is usually part of the fun.
In the European natural gas workshops that I run as both public courses and on-site custom seminars, there are also opportunities to try out trading and to get hands-on with other practical problems, but there is a lot more detailed information about the markets and how they work.
We work hard to keep these courses bang up-to-date in this fast-changing field. So delegates can look forward to a thorough briefing that will give them all the key background info and all the latest developments. Finally, in the one-day courses that I run on more specific topics, like options strategy, exotic options and Value at Risk, delegates should expect to be slightly stretched by the intermediate level material. While we stay away from complex financial mathematics, we pull no punches in ensuring that everyone understands the key concepts behind the math. The class sizes for these courses tend to be smaller, and I am always keen to focus on the topics and issues that are of most relevance and interest to the delegates on the day.
How do you like to present your subject matter?
People who come on my classes are there because they want to learn about the subject. So, that's what we spend the day doing together. I've never aimed for a particular style. I like to think that I have sufficient interest in the subjects that I'm presenting, that my enthusiasm communicates itself to the class. I guess I'm naturally a fairly serious sort of a person, and my presentation isn't going to be packed with one-liners and anecdotes. But it's not entirely dry either. If someone's come along to a one-day course on Value-at-Risk or Exotic Options with the idea that they're just going to sit back and be entertained, then they've made a slightly odd choice, but it won't be a boring day for them, and they'll probably end up working harder and learning far more than they bargained for!
What are your career/professional highlights?
There have been few major summits, but lots of small rewards. When a consulting client tells me that my report is the best he's seen, or when a delegate writes on their feedback form that the course exceeded all their expectations, that's a highlight that's worth having.
What are some of the greatest challenges facing the energy sector?
Where to start?! Oil and gas are finite resources, and many of the reserves are in exactly the places where you'd least want them to be. And we're starting to run out, at least of the easy and cheap resources. At the same time, demand for energy of all forms is growing, apparently unstoppably. And the more fossil fuels we burn, the hotter the planet gets, and nobody seems to have found a lasting solution for this (or certainly not the political will to make it stick). Europe is engaged in a massive political struggle to figure out how to run its internal energy markets, but at the same time Europe needs to step up and compete with the rest of the world for limited resources. Market risk and price volatility seem to increase with every passing year. Can you think of an industry with greater challenges than all this?
How do you like to spend your free time?
On a mountain.
