If you had received one of our 2008 course booklets in the mail at the beginning of the year, I must warn you.
It's obsolete.
We couldn't wait until a new year to bring several new courses and additional sessions into our worldwide schedule so to help you sort out what is truly new and different, we've created a downloadable booklet dedicated to just that, what's new and different, complete with course descriptions, dates and locations.
The two main factors driving this surge are you, our clients, who continue to guide us on your needs, as well as our growing expert faculty, who also have an excellent feel for what is needed in today's dynamic, sometimes volatile, energy, commodity and derivatives markets.
So do take some time out today and see what can make you as a professional, new and different.
Best regards,
Jobert E. Abueva

Due to client demand, The Oxford Princeton Programme is pleased to add a session on the Fundamentals of Technical Analysis (TA) to take place June 9-10, 2008 in Washington DC.
This course is open to all professionals looking to take the mystery out of common technical indicators. You will learn what's behind this analysis technique and how you can make it work every time you trade. Understanding and using technical analysis is important to hedgers as well as speculators. We'll show you all of the many common indicators. Delegates will learn what they are and how the experts use them. We've included a trading simulation where you will actually be making trading decisions based on technical indicators.

We are pleased to present the latest addition to our web-based training roster:
Introduction to Oil Shipping (IOS)
This overview of the oil tanker market introduces you to different vessel types as well as the chartering process. You will become familiar with both charter contract terminology and freight rate calculations. Also included is a review of the impact current environmental and safety regulations have on the industry. Prior knowledge is not required and therefore ideal for new hires though this course serves as an excellent refresher course for professionals as well.
Each lesson includes, up-to-date data and information, interactive quizzes as well as a final assessment. Those who pass can automatically print out a certificate of completion.
Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits are available for North American participants who require such accreditation.

What can delegates look forward to in your courses?
I hope they can look forward to learning a lot of useful new knowledge, but at the same time, having some fun. Many of the courses that I teach are designed to take people from a position of having almost no exposure to a subject, to understanding all the key concepts and basic building blocks of knowledge. The courses give them the vocabulary they need to talk to their colleagues about trading, or refining, or whatever the subject is, and to understand what they're hearing. So there's usually plenty of material to get through, and lots of useful messages to get across. But The Oxford Princeton Programme courses use lots of interactive learning tools - trading simulations, case studies, team exercises, quizzes and games - which communicate new skills and knowledge in an entertaining way. So delegates can expect to be constantly involved in a variety of different activities. They don't get much chance to sit back and take a snooze in my classes, I'm afraid!
How do you like to present your subject matter?
Some people might think it a bit odd, but I can get very enthusiastic about quite obscure subjects. For example, one of my favourite courses is the two-day Fundamentals of Petroleum Refining course. Petroleum refining sounds like a dry and complex subject, but I think refineries are amazing things, and I've not yet had a class where we didn't all have fun exploring how refineries work and what they can do. I also like to think I do a good job of answering any questions that come up during a course. Within reason, I'd rather spend time answering questions that people are concerned about than working through a set course agenda. This is especially true of on-site [in-house training] courses, where issues that are raised by one delegate are very likely to be relevant to their colleagues too. Most questions I can answer immediately, but if there's a useful, important question that I don't know the answer to, I'll often do some research in the lunch break or evening, so I can return to the topic later in the course.
What are your career/professional highlights?
My current career highlight is the three-day Oil Trading Orientation course that I devised for The Oxford Princeton Programme, with my colleague Nigel Harris. This was in response to a request from one of the major oil companies for a way of providing lots of people within the company - accountants, legal staff, operations teams, retail salespeople and so on - with a good understanding of what oil trading is all about. The course is based around trading simulations, and gives people a chance to discover what it is like to be a trader, as well as understanding what a trader does, and why. It has been a great success both inside the company that made the initial request, and elsewhere. Delegates love the fast-paced interactive learning environment, and many have told us that it is the best course they have ever attended. For Nigel and me, it's three days of very hard work, but we love presenting it too.
What are some of the greatest challenges facing the energy sector?
For a lot of people, whether they're directly involved in the sector, or just energy buyers, they key challenge is increasing price volatility and the risk that goes along with that. There used to be lots of sleepy backwaters in the industry where prices rarely changed from one day to the next, and where most of the deals were done on a term contract basis, and everyone had plenty of time for golf. They just don't exist any more. Nowadays it seems that anything that can be traded is traded. So understanding trading and the risk management that goes along with it is getting more important every day.
How do you like to spend your free time?
With the appetite for energy education as high as it currently is, I don't get as much free time as I'd like. My latest holiday was spent cycling in France - at a vastly more leisurely pace than the Tour de France riders, I hasten to add. Plenty of good food and wine - and not a single oil refinery in sight!
