It's the theme threading through this newsletter: new courses, new venues, new faculty and new ideas in energy education. Our global sales and marketing teams will be meeting up this month for our annual conference to discuss new initiatives as we enter the second half of 2007 and right into 2008.

Summer is traditionally a time for new recruits to join the energy and trading sectors. What better time than now to set up training plans for each and every one of them?

What's new with you and your organization? New projects that require new skill sets? New directions that need vetting? What would you like to see new from us?

Let us know.

Best regards,

Our Spotlight Series is an opportunity to hear firsthand from our global team. This month we feature faculty member Leigh Bolton who heads up our LNG series of courses.
What can delegates look forward to in your course?

As well as the factual subject matter they will have the opportunity for open discussion with top international experts who are working on projects around the world to better understand the up-to-date problems and issues for the global LNG industry.

How do you like to present your subject matter?

There is a conscious decision to make the courses as interactive as possible with varied delivery styles, complimented by real case studies and group exercises, and supported by anecdotal examples from the lecturers consulting activities to reinforce key messages.

What are your career/professional highlights?

A very difficult question to respond to as my career has covered both power and natural gas and encompassed a variety of challenging roles ranging from engineering to strategy in such varied geographies as southern Africa, India, Western and Central Europe, and lately in Asia. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to experience working with many cultures.

What are some of the greatest challenges facing the energy sector?

For me there are three prime challenges - climate change mitigation, security of energy supply and technological revolution (I use this term explicitly as we no longer have time for just change). For the energy industry to deliver its potential for the future all three must work together as they are mutually dependent.

How do you like to spend your free time?

Well, I am a freshwater angler and spend many hours by rivers and lakes enjoying nature and sometimes catching fish. Also, my wife and I are fortunate to have a place in Tuscany, not far from Florence, where we try to spend as much time as possible enjoying the weather, the people and the superb Italian food and wines.
