What can delegates look forward to in your course?
Hard work, but hopefully an enjoyable experience. Additionally there is the bonus of being able to network with variety of industry players.
How do you like to present your subject matter?
It is important for delegates to learn within an appropriate environment, so it is essential to make the whole process absorbing and indeed entertaining at times. Whilst each presentation must tell a story, we also use a variety of techniques including exercises, case studies, plays, videos and competitive syndicate games to reinforce the points being addressed. Additionally, in each Oxford course, besides having a resident faculty of two or three presenters, we bring in several outside speakers. Our visiting speakers are current practitioners in their respective fields and offer the benefit of their experience and cutting-edge work practices.
What are your career/professional highlights?
A career in the oil industry has given me the opportunity to live and work in many locations around the globe and has provided me with the opportunity to learn from other cultures and their approaches to solving problems. I also think being involved in the Oxford Princeton courses has allowed me to put some of my experiences extracted over a lifetime back into the industry and continue to interface with an extensive cross section of market participants.
What are some of the greatest challenges facing the energy sector?
The ongoing search for reliable replacement energy, both fossil and non-fossil, in a balanced manner in an environmentally conscious world. Linked to this is the need to educate all interested parties about the role the industry plays and how it is tackling these challenges.
How do you like to spend your free time?
Doing various activities with my family. I also do quite a bit of cooking, wine tasting and singing - but not necessarily all at the same time.
Robin's forthcoming courses include:
25 - 28 Sep 2007: Trading and Operations within the International Oil Markets. Capetown, South Africa
